Waxhaw Elementary seeks permission to begin fundraising for 900-foot walking track

The facilities committee heard an informational fundraising request from Waxhaw Elementary for a walking track and did not take formal action. Mister McManus, a staff member, said the committee received the first formal request under a new work-order system: the school wants to raise funds to build a roughly 900-foot-long by 8-foot-wide walking track and provided a crude sketch and a screenshot of the work-order submission to show stakeholders. "Waxhaw Elementary, we like to, initiate fundraising for a walking track. It's roughly, 900 feet by 8 feet wide, and there's a very crude sketch attached to this along with, kind of a screenshot of what, our document of what we are working through with our work order system," McManus said. The committee asked how the school would handle funds and bidding; McManus said staff provided a budgetary number for the school to use in fundraising, and that any construction or procurement would follow the district's usual bidding process and include PTO coordination. "We requested a budgetary, number for them so they know about how much, to, to fundraise for. And then after that, we would work with them and the PTO as far as, bidding out anything that they may need just like we normally do," McManus said. No motion or vote was taken; the item was informational under the committee's new procedure for work-order–related fundraising requests.
