The council set public hearings for Monday, Oct. 6, at 6 p.m. to consider abatement of unsafe conditions and possible demolition at 821 Austin Street SW and 813 Austin Street SW.
A staff member explained the properties met the criteria for unsafe building abatement and that city staff had completed required notifications to the property owners. The staff presentation said the owners had not corrected the unsafe conditions, prompting council to schedule the formal public hearing to consider demolition or other abatement actions.
Council noted that Josh (a staff member expected to attend) would be present to speak to the cases at the next meeting. The public hearings were formally set by resolution for the Oct. 6 meeting.
Why it matters: Scheduling the public hearings starts the formal abatement process and gives property owners and neighbors a public forum to respond before the council considers demolition or other enforcement remedies.
Next steps: Staff will present documentation and testimony at the Oct. 6 public hearings; property owners and neighbors will have opportunity to speak before council action.
