Snoqualmie City Council voted to remand proposed changes to King County Opioid Abatement Council administrative language to the Finance & Administration committee and to participate in county-level discussions, after staff reported concerns about how a change would affect the timing and distribution of abatement funds. City staff summarized the background: Washington State negotiated settlements with pharmaceutical companies and the King County Opioid Abatement Council administers countywide funds. The county council had proposed an amendment that would allow the council to retain unused portions of an administrative 10% fee rather than returning that difference to municipalities when actual administrative costs are lower; some cities raised concerns that would delay funds reaching addiction programs. FNA discussion noted that the King County council had paused the proposed change and that Snoqualmie should participate in follow-up discussions and seek accounting and spending transparency. The council moved to remand the matter to FNA until King County proposes revised language; the motion passed. No money was spent or reallocated by Snoqualmie at the meeting; the council's action was procedural: to await further county discussions and to have FNA monitor any future amendments and advise the city council on a recommended position.
