The City Commission on Aug. 25 authorized the city manager to select and enter into contracts with AveMed Inc. and MetLife for employee medical, dental, vision and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) benefits effective Oct. 1, 2025 through Sept. 30, 2026.
City Manager Shamika Lawson said the city’s health and dental benefits were set to expire Sept. 30 and that, with assistance from the city’s agent of record, staff had identified competitive renewal rates. The resolution authorizes the manager to enter agreements with AveMed and MetLife.
Vice Mayor Kelly asked how the transition would be communicated and whether there would be any lapse in coverage when AD&D moves from Lincoln to MetLife. Lawson and staff said coverage would continue without lapse; employees will be notified by email and required to attend open enrollment where hard-copy packets will also be available.
The commission voted 4-0 to approve the resolution authorizing the manager to execute the contracts. The city said staff and the agent of record will send information by email and provide hard copies at open enrollment to ensure employees receive notice.
