District reports summer paving, roof and gym inspection work complete ahead of school year

District staff told the Hawthorne Board of Education on Tuesday that multiple summer facilities projects are complete or near completion ahead of the new school year.
In the superintendent's report, staff said paving was finished at Roosevelt and Hawthorne High School and that Jefferson’s paving project was expected to be finished "tomorrow." The Lincoln roof project was reported as 100% complete, while the Roosevelt roof project is ongoing. Officials also reported that all gym inspections have been completed and custodial staff continue summer cleaning to prepare buildings for September.
The buildings-and-grounds committee carried the superintendent’s recommendations (BG-1 through BG-6) in a motion presented to the board; the board approved the committee resolutions on a roll-call vote with all voting members recorded as "yes." The buildings-and-grounds report noted the facilities department had been "busy this summer" and thanked custodial staff for preparing schools for opening.
Board comments during general remarks reiterated appreciation for staff work on summer projects and wished teachers and staff a good start to the year. The superintendent’s report also noted new teacher orientation and the first day of students on Sept. 4.
