Coppell adopts $159.1 million budget, sets property tax rate at $0.444976 to raise $1.8 million

The Coppell City Council on Aug. 26 approved a $159.1 million fiscal year 2025–26 budget and adopted a property tax rate of 0.444976 per $100 of assessed value, city staff said. The council also took the separate statutory vote required to ratify that increase.

City finance staff presented the proposed budget and tax rate during a public hearing before the council voted. "The fiscal year 26 proposed budgeted expenditures is $159,100,000 for all funds of the city and the fiscal year 26 proposed budgeted revenues for all funds of the city is $151,100,000," said Kim Teehend, Director of Strategic Financial Engagement.

Teehend told the council the proposed tax rate of 0.444976 is higher than the no-new-revenue rate but lower than the voter-approval rate, and that the rate will raise approximately $1.8 million more from property taxes than in fiscal year 2025. "The property tax revenue of the general fund will increase just under $1,600,000, of which about $280,000 is from new property," Teehend said.
