District staff spotlighted Manassas Park High School tonight after the school completed four Level Up Virginia activities that the state program tracks to support postsecondary readiness.
Dr. Raitz, staff member, told the board Level Up Virginia is “a statewide initiative led by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia and the Virginia Department of Education” that aims to increase postsecondary readiness, enrollment and completion. “If you've never heard of Level Up Virginia, it is a statewide initiative led by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia and the Virginia Department of Education,” Dr. Raitz said.
Dr. Raitz said the school completed four events tracked by the program: an ECMC college night, Virginia College Application Week, FAFSA Next (assistance to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and Decision Day Virginia. He said Manassas Park High School is one of 28 schools across the state to receive recognition for completing all four events.
“Manassas Park High School is one of only 28 schools across the state to receive this recognition for completing all 4 of those events,” Dr. Raitz said. He added that Mr. Forrest was not present at the meeting, and he expressed appreciation for the high school counseling team and for Level Up Virginia’s resources.
Why it matters: Level Up Virginia’s recognition signals district activity around college access and completion efforts; the program provides resources and partnerships to help students understand postsecondary options.
Next steps: Dr. Raitz said the district looks forward to continuing the partnership with Level Up Virginia and supporting counselors and students as the new school year begins in one week.
