District staff presented a back-to-school spotlight describing orientation activities for new teachers and staff, a bus tour of Manassas Park that ended at the community center, and professional development sessions held before the start of the 2025 6 school year.
"One of the favorite things that I get to do in this position is I'm the first person that gets to welcome everybody to Manassas Park City Schools when they start their journey with us," the presenter said, describing an Aug. 4 welcome for new teachers and staff in the middle school cafeteria. The presenter said the group included experienced educators from surrounding divisions, teachers from outside the state and career changers, and noted that each year someone in the new cohort identifies as a graduate of Manassas Park High School.
Staff described activities that included a bell-ringing, a bus tour of the city ending at the community center where participants had lunch, and professional development organized by Miss Kelso in the instructional department. "We had a great turnout, which I truly believe makes for a really good first day of school," the presenter said, and the spotlight concluded with thanks to bus drivers, cafeteria workers, teachers, instructional assistants, students and parents for a successful start to the school year.
No formal actions were taken on the spotlight; it was presented as an informational item.
