Board Approves 2025–26 Calendar Change: Diwali Observance, Graduation Date Shift

The Manassas Park City Schools board voted to approve two calendar changes for the 2025 6 school year: changing the Diwali observance from Oct. 20 to Oct. 21, 2025, and moving the high school graduation ceremony from Saturday, June 6 to Friday, June 5.

District staff said the item had been presented at the prior board meeting and was before the board for final action. "The first is the change, the observance of Diwali from 10/20/2025 to 10/21/2025. That's the day of observance, to make that change, and then to move, high school graduation ceremony from Saturday, June 6 to Friday, June 5," the presenter said.

A board member moved to approve the proposed changes and a second was recorded; the board then voted in favor by voice vote. No board members asked substantive questions during the discussion recorded in the transcript. Staff did not indicate any budgetary impacts tied to the date changes.
