After reconvening from closed session on Aug. 11, the Burleson Independent School District Board of Trustees authorized the board president to approve new hires between the Aug. 11 meeting and the board's next regular meeting in September, and trustees said they will ratify those hires at the September meeting.

In open session the superintendent recommended the board grant the president the authority to approve hires in the interim. The superintendent stated: "I recommend that the board of trustees grant the board president the authority to approve new hires between now and the next regular meeting in September. The board will consider ratifying those hires at the next meeting." A trustee moved and seconded the motion and the board approved it by voice vote with no recorded opposition.

The action followed a closed session in which the board considered personnel and other items authorized under the Texas Government Code. The motion authorizes interim hiring approvals to ensure staffing needs are met before the next full board meeting; any hires made under the president's authority will be brought to the board for ratification in September.

The board did not record a list of specific hires during the meeting and no individual names were disclosed in open session.
