City utilities staff updated the council on a planned waterline replacement in District 5. The project will replace approximately 2,100 feet of 6-inch cast-iron pipe installed in 1977; staff reported about a dozen line breaks in that segment between 2009 and last year.
“This project will also include the relocation of 2 fire hydrants… and then we're also going to add another hydrant,” the utilities presenter said, noting hydrants currently sit between houses and will be moved to street ends.
Staff said the replacement is covered under the utility job order contract and estimated a total cost, including a 10% contingency, of $531,322.77. The project is a final portion of the neighborhood rehabilitation identified in the 2019 master plan and connects to a planned County Road West replacement that staff said is on track to go out to bid this month.
Staff projected a six- to seven-week construction timeframe for the District 5 replacement once a contractor begins work. Council asked staff to coordinate the schedule so that paving and related roadwork are completed in the correct order with other planned projects.
No vote was taken; staff reported the project is in the current contract authority and will proceed through the job order process.
