ISD 717 approves modest SERC membership increases; daily drop‑in fee rises to $10

The ISD 717 School Board on Aug. 11 approved changes to membership rates at the district’s SERC community center, with most line items rising roughly 7–10 percent and the daily non‑member pass set at $10.

Community Education staff presented a rate review noting the district had not broadly raised rates since 2023 and has reinvested in the facility — new LED lighting, a refreshed lower level coat of paint and an overhaul of cardio equipment — while also absorbing higher operating costs. Staff said the recommended adjustments were the result of advisory‑board input and comparisons with neighboring facilities. The presenter told the board projected revenue based on 2024 membership numbers would be approximately $15,000 higher under the new schedule if membership levels remain similar.

Officials emphasized sensitivity to family budgets while noting the daily pass increase is aimed at encouraging membership and limiting casual after‑school use that strains staffing. "Anyone that doesn't have a membership, it's $10 a day," the presenter said. The board approved the rate adjustments by motion; board members emphasized continuing to welcome families and community groups that need access and said scholarship or support options could be discussed if cost is a barrier.

Discussion vs. decision: the board voted to approve the SERC updates and new rates in a single motion; the motion carried by voice vote with no recorded objections. Implementation will follow Community Education procedures for membership administration.
