Council adopts amendments to Alpharetta Unified Development Code on parking and zoning

The Alpharetta City Council on Aug. 18 adopted two Unified Development Code text amendments on second reading, changing downtown parking requirements and updating zoning-district names and descriptions. Director Cook presented the second readings and told council there were no changes since the first reading at the July 28 meeting. The first ordinance amended Article 2 in Appendix A (Alpharetta Downtown Code) to revise parking requirements, including ratios for elementary and middle schools. The second ordinance revised Article 2 UDC text to amend certain zoning district titles and descriptions and clarify consistency with the city’s master plan. Both items had public hearings at the council’s July 28 meeting; no public comment was recorded at the Aug. 18 second readings. Council voted to adopt each ordinance unanimously. The council record shows no change to the draft language between readings; Director Cook said she was available to answer questions but none were raised. The ordinances repeal conflicting code provisions and update downtown and citywide zoning references to align with the master plan. Next steps: Following adoption, city staff will implement the revised parking ratios and update the consolidated UDC document. Any further edits would require future council action.
