"None of this will throw us out of the budget," staff said.
Committee members asked whether some SSOs had already been carrying personal firearms. Staff said the practice had been paused because the policy step authorizing carrying had not been completed; the approved action will standardize equipment and fund training and maintenance.
The superintendent indicated support for moving forward with the procurement and implementation steps and said that, following committee approval, staff (including Mr. Caputo and the procurement team) would proceed with ordering and training.
A motion to approve the procurement and authorization process carried after a second; the committee asked staff to ensure that funds are allocated correctly among the security accounts and that purchases and training follow the policy framework.
