After reconvening from a closed session on Sept. 8, the Burleson Independent School District Board of Trustees authorized the board president to approve new hires between the Sept. meeting and the next regular meeting in October. Trustees said any hires approved by the president will be presented for ratification at the October meeting.
The closed session agenda — announced before the recess — listed the permissible topics under Texas Government Code Chapter 551, including teacher and administrator personnel matters, deliberation of a negotiated contract or prospective gift, security devices/audits, student discipline matters and consultations with legal counsel. The board completed the closed session and returned to open session to act on the recommended administrative authorization.
A trustee moved to grant the board president the requested authority; the motion was seconded and approved on a voice vote. Trustees said the step is intended to allow timely hiring to fill critical positions between scheduled board meetings.
Action: Motion granting the board president authority to approve new hires between meetings, with ratification at the next regular meeting; motion passed.
