Airport eyes terminal optimization grant, high‑mast lighting replacement and boarding‑ramp purchase

The grant would support repurposing terminal space to expand the hold room, reduce tenting on the ramp, and reconfigure kiosks.
Manager Warren Smith said the airport expects a NOFO to appear “in July or August” but that it had not yet been released; staff will prepare an application if the program is issued. Staff also noted initial drawings for a proposed terminal reconfiguration and said they would present conceptual plans at the next commission meeting.
Separately, the airport has a high‑mast lighting grant ready for signature and staff said they intend to sign the grant this week to submit to FAA prior to the end of the week. The grant covers replacement of 20 high‑mast ramp lights with lower (30‑foot) shielded fixtures that include timed controls to meet dark‑sky considerations.
Airport management also described a forthcoming request for proposals (RFP) for a boarding ramp to assist passengers with mobility impairments when stairs are not suitable. The device would be an aluminum mobile ramp that can be rolled up to an aircraft door for safe wheelchair transfer; management said the RFP is expected to be posted in the next one to two weeks.
No commission vote was required; commissioners agreed staff should proceed with grant submittals and move the terminal-optimization work forward if the NOFO is released.
