Parks staff reported on Sept. 10 that exterior masonry repairs at Waveny House are underway and that an elevator installation will require a temporary suspension of event bookings during the installation window.
A staff member who presented the report said exterior brick repointing began in mid-July and is expected to be completed in November. Interior second-floor bathrooms have been completed and the brides-and-grooms room is scheduled to be finished this month.
The presenter said Waveny House will be closed to private events, including weddings, while the elevator is installed: “The elevator, Waveny House, will be closed from mid December through March for the construction and the installation of the elevator. As a result, there will be no projects including no events, including weddings, during that period from early January to early April.” Parks and Recreation staff will remain on site during that period to maintain operations and allow Parks program access where possible.
Why it matters: Waveny House is a major revenue and event venue for the town. The presenter said there were 36 weddings and 12 special events this past season and that prior closures have affected bookings and budget expectations.
Other notes: the presenter thanked the Conservancy for a successful 10th-anniversary celebration and said staff have a brochure and fee schedule available. No vote was required on the maintenance work; contractors and schedules were already in progress.
Ending: staff urged event organizers to plan around the elevator installation and said Parks staff will return with any necessary budget or scheduling updates.
