Residents can also contact the Department of Public Works to request a receptacle.
Council members also asked who pays for the new carts and how fees are charged. Staff said recipients would pay an annual fee (described in the meeting as a modest annual cost) and that the city will cover procurement of the new receptacles. Staff said they are trying to limit broad advertising of the program to avoid unanticipated costs from widespread demand.
Officials asked staff to work with residents who have demonstrated need. Staff said they will check historical pickup records to verify recurring excess and to ensure distribution to residents who need a second receptacle.
