Riverview council opposes state bills to raise landfill tipping fees

Riverview City Council on Sept. 2 adopted a resolution opposing proposed state increases to landfill tipping fees in the Michigan Legislature. Council member Ganaga read a statement and said as a member of the council she was “strongly opposed to these increases in the landfill tipping fees,” and argued the increases would be “financially devastat[ing]” to Downriver communities. The resolution specifically cites Senate Bill 246 of 2025 and House Bill 4,393 of 2025. The resolution directs the city clerk to transmit the adopted language to municipal customers of the Riverview facility, the Downriver Community Conference and its communities, the named state legislators, the governor and other regional officials and business leaders. Motion to adopt the resolution was offered by Council member Ganaga and supported by Council member Robins. The council proceeded with roll call and the resolution was adopted.
