Riverview council approves first readings of ordinances amending administrative and retirement codes

The Riverview City Council on Aug. 18 authorized first readings by title only of three proposed ordinances amending city administrative and retirement rules.

City staff introduced proposed ordinance No. 7-53 to amend the City of Riverview Administrative Ordinance, specifically an amendment to section 2-31. Councilmember Webb moved to authorize first reading by title only; Councilmember O'Neil seconded and the motion passed by roll call.

The council also authorized first reading of proposed ordinance No. 7-54, described on the agenda as an ordinance to amend the City of Riverview Retirement Ordinance by amending section 2-267 (composition) to article 6, employee benefits. Councilwoman O'Neil moved and Councilman Pray seconded; the motion passed by roll call.

Finally, the council authorized first reading of proposed ordinance No. 7-55, an ordinance to amend the code of ordinances by repealing and readopting sections 2-359(a) and (d) (conditions for disability retirements), subdivision 5 (disability benefits) of division 2 (retirement system) of article 6 (employee benefits) of chapter 2. The language on the agenda states the change would "exclude the annual physical examination and income offset requirements of retirement beginning at age 55 years." Councilwoman O'Neil moved the item; Councilmember Webb seconded and the council approved the first reading by roll call.
