County awards Riverview $600,000 CDBG for Young Patriots Park ADA improvements

Riverview — Wayne County representative Joe Palamara told the Riverview City Council on June 2 that $600,000 in reallocated Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds will be awarded to the Young Patriots Park ADA play structure project.
Palamara said the funds became available when other projects came in under budget and Riverview was prepared with an ADA-compliant project. "All told with what the city is going to contribute, there's going to be over $1,000,000 invested in the City Of Riverview in parks and recreation," he said.
Council approved a consent-item request to reallocate 2022 CDBG funds in the amount of $600,100.90 to the Young Patriots Park ADA play structure. The motion was made by Councilwoman O'Neil and supported by Councilman Robbins; the roll call vote was unanimous in favor.
Context: Palamara and city officials noted this award follows a recent $340,000 CDBG award for Vreeland Park and that Young Patriots is a primary recreational facility for Riverview. Mayor Swift and staff thanked Wayne County and city partners for helping secure the funding.
