Riverview board approves Seats Middle School gym renovation, caps project at $231,000

The board acted after Superintendent Hatzel summarized a request from Grounds and Maintenance Director Kennedy. The district had issued a request for proposals to abate the existing floor and to purchase and install a new playing surface, using Sourcewell cooperative pricing where applicable. The approved authorization included abatement, a new floor, line painting and logos, bleacher removal and reinstallation of existing wall padding, floor covers, and replacement of backboards, rims and hoist systems.
Hatzel told the board the recommended awards and not-to-exceed sums were: environmental abatement to Environmental Maintenance Engineers, $61,600; floor purchase and installation to Sports Floor Refinishing, $99,400; floor lining, logos, bleacher work and related items, $25,000; and new backboard/rim/hoist work, $45,000. The total authorized not-to-exceed amount is $231,000, and the work is scheduled to be performed in 2025. The superintendent described the existing gym floor as “in quite disrepair” and cited the need to abate and replace the playing surface.
Secretary Walker moved the resolution to approve the Seats Middle School gym projects; Trustee Meeks supported the motion. The board took no substantive discussion before the roll call. The motion passed on a recorded vote: President Boer, Vice President Diminsky, Secretary Walker, Treasurer Davis, Trustee Meeks and Trustee O’Brien all voted yes; Trustee Toth was excused.
