Riverview staff update council on landfill, water-main, parks and planning work; vision-plan contract authorized
Summary
City staff told the council that the Clark Avenue water-main replacement permit has been received and will begin once weather permits, that three pickleball courts will be installed using a county CDBG grant, and that the concrete replacement contractor has offered a no-cost contract extension.
City staff briefed the council on a range of special projects, including landfill activity, water-main replacement, parks improvements and planning work.
Dave Scurtto told the council landfill operations have been slow with the holidays; Aries Health received approval to expand and the former vacant “Panda 2” site has not returned revised architectural plans to staff after earlier review. City engineering staff reported that the Clark Avenue water-main replacement permit has been received and crews will begin work once weather allows. The engineer also said the city plans to replace 65 light services and to install three pickleball courts under a county CDBG grant; the pavilion roof has been replaced and porta-johns and drinking fountains (including a dog fountain) will be added.
Staff said the concrete replacement contractor is willing to extend its current contract at no price increase; staff plans to present that extension for council approval. The city also completed an audit of its stormwater management program and is working on the capital-improvement plan for utility projects.
On planning and economic development, the council heard that the vision-plan committee is forming and that the city manager signed an engagement with the Bonner Advisory Group for an economic-development strategic plan that will support the city’s 2030 planning work. The vision-plan kickoff meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 22, at the Senior Activity Center.
