Riverview — The Riverview City Council adopted a resolution April 21 calling a public hearing for May 5 on a proposed special assessment roll to fund police protection under Michigan Public Act 33 of 1951, as amended.
City staff told the council the proposed special assessment district would encompass all lots and parcels in the city and that cost estimates for police protection — including vehicles, apparatus, equipment, maintenance and personnel — have been prepared and filed with the city clerk for public inspection. Staff said 2024 millage rates were used for calculation purposes and that the “2 mill dollar amount is an estimate subject to the final amount completed by the city assessor.” The full proposed special assessment roll is on file at the clerk’s office, staff said.
Under the process described to council, after the public hearing and consideration the city council would annually determine the amount to be assessed for police protection services. The resolution to call the May 5 public hearing passed on a unanimous roll call vote.
