Main Street accreditation site visit set for Oct. 16; director outlines streetscape and property updates

Erin, the DDA director, told the Downtown Development Authority on Aug. 27 that staff submitted materials for Main Street accreditation and that a site visit has been proposed for Oct. 16. She asked the board to confirm availability for a 9 a.m. meeting that day so Michigan Main Street can schedule interviews with board members, city staff and council representatives.
"We have Main Street accreditation. Everything has been submitted. They have proposed their site visit will be Oct. 16," Erin said, adding that Michigan Main Street would like a 9 a.m. meeting at Devon Title with the board and follow‑up sessions with city staff and council.
Erin also updated the board on downtown projects: the streetscape and public amenity project is moving forward with a city steering committee and a master‑plan update is underway. She reported the children's museum received a Match on Main grant and has begun purchasing equipment; the museum leader asked whether it could expand a proposed climbing wall, and Erin advised the museum to check with MEDC for grant eligibility.
On economic vitality, Erin said staff are planning a succession‑planning workshop for downtown businesses in April and will keep Art After Hours as an annual fourth‑Friday event in June. She provided property updates: a new business at 9 South Monroe is expected to open in roughly two months, and multiple downtown suites and buildings (34 West Chicago, 48 West Chicago, 42 West Chicago, 36 West Pearl and others) are available for rent or under inquiry.
Ending: Erin said she will confirm the Oct. 16 schedule with Michigan Main Street once the board confirms availability and will circulate the accreditation agenda.
