The Coldwater City Council approved a $30,827.76 purchase of rugged laptops for police vehicles, City staff said. The purchase will buy 12 units, staff told the council, and the city expects to reuse existing docking stations with adapters to avoid a full retrofit.
Pat Poole, City staff, said the department’s current vehicle laptops run Windows 10 and cannot be upgraded to Windows 11, creating security and compliance risks with criminal justice information systems. “They cannot be upgraded to Windows 11, which creates ... compliance issues with the criminal justice information systems,” Poole said.
Poole said Dell submitted the lowest bid at $30,827.76; the city had budgeted $58,500 for the project to allow for potential docking-station retrofits. Council moved and supported Resolution 25-70 to award the purchase to Dell Technologies; the motion carried with an aye vote.
Staff noted the purchase was intended to restore compliance and reduce security risk in police vehicle systems. Implementation will include installing laptops and validating connectivity; staff did not list a separate contract number or specify delivery dates in the meeting.
