Resident urges sidewalks and continuous bike path along Willowbrook Road as Coldwater grows

Carla Hemminger, a Coldwater resident, told the Coldwater City Council on June 23 that sidewalks and a continuous bicycle path are needed along Willowbrook Road north of North Drive.
"It's a good start that we have a sidewalk from 12 to North Drive, but North Drive and further north on Willowbrook Road needs sidewalks even more," Hemminger said, urging the council to plan for more pedestrians as the city expands.
Hemminger said most pedestrian activity occurs north of North Drive toward the Summit Apartments and described people walking and bicycling through parking lots once sidewalks end. She also recalled a prior conversation with "a young man named Jake" who had proposed a bicycle and walking path along the entire length of Willowbrook Road.
Hemminger suggested using "the $300 profit" to help fund a bicycle and walking path, and she raised traffic concerns at intersections including Michigan Avenue, Willowbrook Road and Fisk Street if new apartments increase vehicle and pedestrian activity.
The comments were made during the public-comment portion of the June 23 council meeting; the council did not take formal action on the sidewalk request during the meeting.
No site plan or staff proposal for sidewalks on the specific parcel discussed in later business was decided at the meeting; Hemminger's remarks were taken as public input for future consideration.
