Council restores Elks to downtown social district and approves related licenses

The Coldwater City Council on June 9 approved amendments to the city’s social district to include the Elks Lodge and granted the club the related social district license and trademark permissions.
Event staff explained that the Elks were previously opted out of the social district because a prior state law restricted special-license holders; Michigan law has since changed, allowing the Elks to be included. The council took separate votes on resolution 25-58 (map amendment), 25-59 (license) and 25-60 (SocialMark/logo use and agreement) and approved all three items in separate roll-call votes.
Council members and staff noted the items are distinct and must be adopted individually even though they work together to include the Elks in the social district and allow them to participate in sale and cup-marketing programs tied to the district.
The council approved the amendments and licenses; staff will proceed with necessary licensing updates.
