Council approves temporary construction easement at 22 West Pearl to aid redevelopment

The Coldwater City Council on June 9 approved a temporary construction easement to support redevelopment of 22 West Pearl into residential units.
City Manager Keith told the council the easement would allow the developer to occupy seven parking spaces in Chandler Plaza during renovations as the office building at 22 West Pearl is converted into four or five apartments. The easement is a real-estate transaction introduced April 28 and returned for second reading and action.
Council moved and approved the resolution and agreements allowing the temporary construction easement; the meeting record shows the motion carried by roll-call vote. City staff described the easement as a short-term construction accommodation to facilitate the rehabilitation and reuse of an existing downtown building.
Councilmembers described the project as a positive redevelopment effort for downtown; staff said paperwork for the easement and associated agreements were provided in the packet and that the item had previously been considered at the April 28 meeting.
