Council approves second amendment to lease with Coldwater Community Center

The Coldwater City Council on June 9 approved a second amendment to the lease between the city and the Coldwater Community Center governing the property at 11 East Chicago.

City Manager Keith described the amendment as clarifying that the community center may rent the facility to generate revenue to cover operating costs and utility payments; the amendment returns to council as the second reading of the real estate transaction after initial introduction on April 28. “If you so consider it, we would ask that you approve lease agreement number 23-18,” the manager said while explaining the package and referencing the associated resolutions and agreement numbers during the meeting.

The council conducted a roll-call vote on the lease amendment and the motion carried. In public comment preceding the vote, a representative of the Coldwater Community Center said the amendment will provide revenue to pay utilities and highlighted ongoing programs including sewing classes, multicultural events and a driving-safety class planned with Blair’s Driving School for members of the Haitian community.

The amendment clarifies the organization’s ability to rent the facility; staff said a few other technical tweaks were included. The council approved the amendment by roll-call vote.
