Council lets social-district permit holders use city service mark for beverage containers

The Coldwater City Council on Monday approved Resolution 25-57 and five licensing agreements to let participating social-district permit holders use the city’s social-district service mark when ordering beverage containers.

Audrey, the presenter, told the council staff previously ordered cups and stickers centrally to ensure compliance with state rules, which require a mark indicating the social district logo on every beverage container plus an identifier for the selling business. After operating the district for a few years, staff proposed registering a service mark with the state and granting permit holders access to use it, allowing businesses to order their own compliant containers and reducing staff workload.

Audrey summarized that the resolution would authorize five identical agreements—one with each social-district permit holder—allowing appropriate use of the logo and permitting businesses to purchase containers that meet state requirements. “What you have in front of you is essentially a resolution that would approve five identical agreements, one with each social district permit holder to allow them to take our logo to use it appropriately and for its intended purpose,” she said.

Councilors moved to adopt Resolution 25-57 and approve Agreements A-25-19 through A-25-23; the motion carried with no recorded opposition. Staff said the agreements will let businesses choose container types and ordering options that fit their needs while maintaining compliance with state rules governing social-district beverage presentation.
