Council approves easements for ITC and DTE to connect solar to Jonesville substation

The Coldwater City Council on Monday approved multiple easements and related agreements to accommodate transmission work by ITC and a DTE solar interconnection near the Jonesville substation.
Paul Jakubjack presented the easement requests and explained two ITC items: an approximately 35-foot southern expansion of the Jonesville substation yard to add another bus, and a reroute of a 138 kV line into the southwest corner of the substation that requires an additional easement area. Council had previously approved these items at an earlier meeting; Monday’s action adopted Resolution 25-37 and agreements A-25-26 and A-25-27 to finalize the changes.
Paul also described a DTE request for a nonexclusive easement on the east side of the Jonesville substation to allow DTE’s solar interconnection to tie into the ITC substation. He said the easement preserves the city’s right to access the area for future expansions. The council adopted Resolution 25-38 and Agreement A-25-28 in a roll-call vote.
Councilors approved the ITC and DTE easements by recorded vote; all present members voted yes. Paul noted the easements support planned regional solar development and the reconfiguration of transmission access to the Jonesville substation.
No public opposition was recorded during the discussion. Staff said agreements and related documentation will be executed following council adoption.
