The Downtown Development Authority on May 28 approved a work plan to host “Art After Hours” on June 27 from 5 to 8 p.m. in downtown Coldwater, the DDA said at the meeting.
Laura, speaking for the Economic Vitality Committee, said the event will pair local artists with downtown businesses, keep shops open late, and include family activities such as a live chalk artist and a community chalk competition sponsored by the Coldwater Area Chamber of Commerce. Laura said the committee is requesting $1,500 from DDA funds and will ask city council for permission to close South Monroe Street for the event.
Board member Rocky moved to approve the work plan; Bill Keeney seconded the support. The board voted in favor.
Board members asked about contingency plans for inclement weather. Committee members said many activities are tied to businesses so “the core of the event will still be fully intact” indoors if rain prevents outdoor features. The work plan packet submitted to the board combined several projects for a grant application; the board approved only the Art After Hours portion for June 27.
The DDA will forward the approved work plan to city council to request the street closure and handle final event permitting and logistics.
