Bob Granger and Joe presented the Department of Municipal Services annual report, summarizing routine maintenance, special projects and equipment investments from the prior year.
The department reported maintaining 58.12 miles of public streets and completing 5.3 miles of paving (crackfill and related work), replacing 11 storm inlets and repairing more than 3,200 cubic yards of concrete and sidewalk. Parks staff said the city maintains about 218 acres of parkland and conducts frequent mowing and restroom cleaning during the April–October season; crews also carried out field restoration and event support for festivals, runs, parades and other public events.
Compost and yard‑waste operations expanded: the city opened a new compost site and staffed 34 weekend openings last year; staff said a gate and camera will allow broader public access and year‑round weekend hours in the coming season. The department reported collecting roughly 52,530 cubic yards of leaves and yard waste and about 6,500 cubic yards of brush.
DMS said it refurbished salt storage, calibrated winter equipment and invested in a one‑ton dump truck, a leaf‑collection vehicle, a concrete buggy and a Polaris Ranger to improve efficiency in cemetery and park operations. Forestry work included removal of 30 trees, pruning about 1,100 trees and planting roughly 25 new trees.
Council members asked about gates and camera use at the compost site and how closing times will be handled; staff said gates will be on timers tied to sunrise/sunset and vehicles will be able to exit if they arrive before closing. DMS asked council for continued coordination with Pat Poole on electronic gates and camera requirements. The council thanked DMS staff for the report.
