City manager reports Winterfest turnout, recycling numbers and upcoming downtown events

City Manager Keith briefed the Coldwater City Council on community events and the city's contract-collected waste figures for the prior year.
Keith said Winterfest, held the preceding Saturday, drew a strong turnout and credited the recreation department and sponsors for the event. On municipal solid-waste collection under the city's contract with Republic, Keith said the city has about 3,000 customers and Republic collected "almost 3,900 tons of refuse and recyclables." He added that tonnage represented about a 5% increase from the prior year and that recycled materials made up about 13% of the total collected.
Keith also alerted the council to three upcoming events on Saturday, Feb. 8: a parent-child dance from 3 to 5 p.m. at the DIR Center; a daddy-daughter dance from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. (registrations still open); and the third annual Love Local event, a downtown soup and chili tasting from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with up to 12 tasting stations. He noted the soup-and-chili tasting is free this year.
The council approved the city manager report by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
