The Fraser City Council presented a certificate of recognition to volunteers and the Fraser Historical Commission honoring the Baumgartner House’s 150th anniversary and heard details about a community celebration planned for Sept. 7.
"It is my honor to provide this certificate of recognition for the Baumgartner House hundred and fiftieth anniversary," Mayor Michael T. Lesich said while reading the council’s proclamation. Members of the Fraser Historical Commission and volunteers accepted the certificate and outlined event programming.
Co-chairs Martha (Martie) Van Eaton and Karen Hodges told council the Sept. 7 event will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature a petting zoo, music, food, make-and-take crafts, demonstrations such as basket and doll making, and garden activities intended to highlight pioneer-era skills.
Mayor Lesich’s proclamation summarized the house’s history, noting construction in 1875 in a German brick style and tracing ownership to John Christian Baumgartner, an early immigrant homesteader. The mayor’s certificate recognized the Historical Commission, volunteers and city employees for repairs and preservation that led to the site serving as a local museum.
Commission members urged public attendance and noted the commission’s work with school tours and ongoing preservation activities. The council took no formal policy action; the item was ceremonial recognition and a public announcement of the community celebration.
