Fraser — The Fraser City Council approved a recommendation to raise meeting compensation for Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals members to $100 per meeting, effective July 1, and reappointed a member to the Local Officers Compensation Commission.
The council voted to implement the Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals per‑meeting stipend increase; staff estimated the change would require a roughly $13,900 amendment to next year’s budget. During discussion, councilors said the increase recognizes the time and skill required of volunteer board members and noted most municipal advisory boards carry modest stipends. The council also reappointed Joe Cimenti to the Local Officers Compensation Commission with a term through Sept. 30, 2029.
Separately, the Local Officers Compensation Commission presented a determination on council pay and meeting compensation. City Attorney explained the law in this area is unusual: if the council does not reject the determination by two‑thirds vote it automatically takes effect, so the council took no motion and left the commission determination in place.
Why it matters: The change raises compensation for volunteer board members who review site plans, land use and variances, and reflects council’s policy judgment about supporting boards’ time commitment.
What’s next: Finance will incorporate the Planning and ZBA stipend increase into the 2025–26 budget and staff will notify the affected boards.
