Lakia (program manager, Abode Services) briefed commissioners on the agency's rapid rehousing work in Pleasanton and the Tri Valley. Abode receives referrals from CityServe and the City of Pleasanton and provides rental subsidies and case management to support housing stability.
Abode said its contract goal was to serve six households; during the reporting period it housed six households (some rollovers from the prior fiscal year) and provided monthly visits and individualized service plans. Subsidies are typically provided for a minimum of 12 months, with recertification every three months; rent contributions increase as household income rises so the subsidy steps down over time. Abode said security deposit assistance is also provided where needed and that clients may request extensions subject to city approval and available funds.
Staff noted housing search and deposits are more costly in the Tri Valley than in other areas, and that higher deposits reduce the number of households a program can serve with finite funds. No new households were enrolled in the January'June reporting window because earlier referrals were housed in the first half of the fiscal year; Abode said it will continue to accept referrals when capacity and funding allow.
