At an informational hearing the Licensing Commission heard a complaint from Clementine Thomas regarding a vehicle she purchased from United Auto Sales (874 Berkshire Ave.). Thomas said she bought the car, later experienced a persistent check‑engine light and was left waiting for repairs after the dealer arranged for a mechanic to work on the vehicle.
Dealer Joseph Nigro told the commission he had ordered a required intake‑runner part from the manufacturer (he said it cost about $400), brought the vehicle to a local mechanic (Powers Automotive, 420 Oak St.) and that delays around the July 4 holiday and limited communication created the dispute. Nigro said he still had the part and was willing to install it or refund the customer if the repair did not correct the problem.
Thomas and her grandson described continued drivability concerns and interior trim issues she said occurred while the vehicle was with the outside mechanic. The commission noted the matter was informational—not an enforcement hearing—and urged the parties to set an appointment so the dealer can attempt the repair. Commission staff offered to assist scheduling if necessary.
The dealer confirmed his willingness to install the part or reimburse the purchaser if repairs do not remedy the problem; the commission said that absent a formal license violation being shown later, the appropriate next step is for the parties to complete repair efforts and attempt to resolve the dispute.
