Two Springfield restaurants urged to negotiate after repeated parking, trash and behavior complaints

The Springfield Licensing Commission heard an informational complaint about recurring parking, trash and customer behavior disputes between Marley's (M L and J LLC) at 750 Boston Road and neighboring U.S. Fried Chicken & Grill.

Jody Ann Saint George, manager of Marley's, told the commission that disputes began after the neighboring business opened; she described customers parking in Marley's spaces, occasional bottles or trash left on the property and instances when she has had to hire cleaning services. The neighboring owner, Malik Owen of U.S. Fried Chicken & Grill, said his customers have also been subject to aggressive responses, alleged trash placement and claimed his staff were sometimes obstructed and harassed.

Commissioners and multiple speakers urged the two business owners to meet directly and negotiate a practical agreement about shared parking, trash removal and security protocols. The commission noted Marley's uses private security who patrol the door and make rounds but are not stationed outside for the entire operating period.

Springfield police representative said no incident reports were known to have been filed with the department at the time of the hearing. The commission emphasized that this matter was informational rather than a license violation proceeding and that the best outcome would be a private, written agreement between the businesses.

Both business owners said they were willing to meet; the commission urged them to do so and suggested the parties document any agreement and, if necessary, bring evidence of violations to the commission for follow‑up.
