Commission approves transfer of Johnny Mac Liquors license with new manager Kajal Patel

The Springfield License Commission approved a petition to transfer the package store alcoholic-beverage license for Johnny Mac Liquors, located at 1949 Wolverham Road, to Nash Rad Krishna Inc., and named Kajal Savantilan Patel as the new manager of record.

Attorney Josh Levine of Levine Law, representing the buyer, presented the revised application and said the proposed manager of record was changed after earlier concerns that an individual could not serve as manager of record in both West Springfield and Springfield. Patel told commissioners she had liquor-service experience at Spuds gas station (20202022) and at Uptown Liquors (20222024), and she is TIP certified. Patel said she lives in Beding Hills and would work 40 hours per week as manager of record; the business hours were given as 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. The buyer said Patel was anticipated to be on-site between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., with other TIP-certified staff covering later hours; Patel acknowledged the commission that as manager of record she would be responsible for actions in the establishment whether present or not.

Commissioners asked about staffing and TIP certification. The applicant said current Uptown Liquors employees are TIP certified and the new staff at Johnny Mac would be certified before selling alcohol. After discussion, a motion to approve the transfer and designate Kajal Savantilan Patel as manager of record passed on a roll call vote; the chair congratulated the applicants and offered good wishes.

The commissionfile now reflects Nash Rad Krishna Inc. (DBA Johnny Mac Liquors) as the licensee and Kajal Savantilan Patel as manager of record. Any compliance issues or complaints would be subject to the commissionreview procedures and sanctions under the licensing rules.
