Committee votes not to sell multiple Springs Pond Road parcels, citing wetlands and terrain

The Legal Affairs Committee on Aug. 19 voted unanimously to follow Community Development's recommendation not to sell multiple city-owned parcels on Springs Pond Road, citing topography and wetland concerns.
Councilor Turco, who visited the site, said the elevations and contours could create issues for surrounding parcels and that the parcels are best left vacant. "We should not sell these parcels," Turco said. Councilor Walton agreed, deferring to Community Development Director Kirk Bellavance, who characterized the parcels as being within a wetland area and therefore "not really being appropriate for private ownership."
The motion to accept Community Development's recommendation and not sell the parcels passed on a roll-call vote: Councilors Turco, Peach, Higgins, Melville and Rosignal voting yes.
Next steps: No further action on disposition; parcels to remain city-owned and preserved consistent with Community Development's assessment.
