Peabody councilors on Aug. 19 asked city staff to post public meeting schedules promptly and to consolidate department calendars so residents can find meetings on a single municipal calendar.
Council President Julie Daigle and Councilor Turco led the discussion after councilors reported residents had difficulty finding the meeting on the city website calendar. Councilor Turco and Councilor Cherco urged the Information Technology and Clerk’s offices to update and consolidate calendars across departments — including the school department, which posts its own calendar — so residents can view upcoming meetings beyond the current week.
Why it matters: Easier public access to meeting schedules improves transparency and public participation by letting residents plan ahead for hearings, budget sessions, and committee meetings.
Action taken: Councilors moved that the city post meetings as promptly as possible and consolidate municipal meeting listings; the motion passed without objection. The clerk indicated some meeting postings are delayed until agendas are finalized, but councilors asked that the web calendar be updated proactively to reflect scheduled meetings where possible.
Next steps: Staff (IT, City Clerk) to coordinate calendar consolidation and more proactive posting; no formal budget or ordinance change was recorded at the meeting.
