Finance committee approves $19,000 for Old South Burial Ground fencing and restoration

The PVD City Council Finance Committee approved a $19,000 transfer from the Community Preservation Commission (CPC) historic preservation funds for fencing replacement and improvements at the Old South Burial Ground. Councilor Gould moved the measure and the committee approved it by roll-call vote, 5-0.

Gingras said the request came from community preservation to install replacement fencing and make improvements at historic cemeteries. Councilor Gould acknowledged the work of the historic commission and the CPC: “Hats off to the historic commission and CPC for funding this,” Gould said, calling the Old South Burial Ground a “shining example.”

Councilors recorded a roll-call vote with all five members present voting “yes.” The motion transferred $19,000 from CPC historic preservation account number 270000033022 to the CPC Cemetery Restoration Old South Burial Ground account (account number 270181158563 / project 2024000394). The committee did not adopt additional policy changes; the transfer funds the specified restoration work.
