The Lowell Planning Board continued a public hearing on a multi‑property tree‑removal application to the board’s Oct. 20 meeting. The continued hearing concerns requests to remove trees at multiple addresses — including 2 Van Granby Road, 24 Van Granby Road, 29 Van Granby Road, 61 Van Granby Road, 70 Granby Road and 75 Granby Road — and was requested by the applicant in writing.
At the meeting the chair read statutory and municipal authorities cited in the application, including General Laws chapter 87, §5 and Chapter 260 of the Lowell Code of Ordinances, and recited the approximate diameters of the listed trees (for example, approximately 34 inches at 2 Van Granby Road and approximately 40 inches at 29 Van Granby Road). The application states removal is necessary to maintain the integrity of public sidewalks and utilities. Planning Board member Mr. Visek said the item has historically attracted a robust turnout and recommended continuing to the Oct. 20 meeting to allow public participation; Lucia seconded the motion and the board unanimously carried the continuance.
The continuance schedules the matter for additional public testimony and further review; no decision on tree removal was made at the Sept. 4 meeting.
