Staff also reported that the advanced metering infrastructure replacement (new water meters and communication tower) is underway: the tower was installed at the Public Works yard and meter replacements are expected to begin in June and continue for 8–12 weeks. Households will receive two notices in advance of their meter change: one about two weeks ahead and another a few days before installation; the work will require a short disruption of service at each meter when crews perform the swap.
On the recycling event, staff recommended a safety adjustment after consultation with the city's insurance agent: potentially hazardous items such as metals and bulk building materials should be handed directly from residents to the vendor, rather than handled by volunteers. The council directed the city manager to provide staff and other resources necessary for the T for T Spring into Recycling event as planned for May 24.
