Talent City Council swears in three councilors and unanimously elects council president

TALENT, Jan. 13 — The Talent City Council held a special meeting Jan. 13 to administer oaths of office to three newly seated councilors and to elect a council president.
The council administered oaths to Anna Byers (City Council position 2), Rosario Medina (position 4) and Daniel Cooley (position 6). Each repeated the standard oath in full, including support for the constitutions of the United States and the state of Oregon and an oath to uphold the city charter and ordinances. Anna Byers repeated, “I, Anna Byers, do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States of America,” followed by the remainder of the oath.
The oath of office was conducted by city staff member Hector, who also collected signatures after each oath. Mayor Aris Wood presided over the meeting and called the session to order and confirmed a quorum before the oath proceedings began.
After the swearing-in, the council moved to elect a council president, a biennial duty of the council. Councilor Byers nominated a colleague and, after an acceptance and a call for other nominations, moved to elect that nominee. The motion was seconded, council members voted “aye,” and the meeting record states the motion carried unanimously. The transcript of the meeting contains inconsistent renderings of the nominee’s name in the audio-to-text record; the meeting minutes should be consulted for the official spelling of the elected president.
The meeting adjourned after the election and noted a subsequent meeting at 6 p.m.
