Council considers moving meeting start to 6:30 p.m.; asks staff to study impacts

Councilor Kerrey raised the possibility of moving Stayton council meetings from 7 p.m. to an earlier start time during the May 19 meeting, saying several members of the community have asked for an earlier start to make meetings easier to attend after work.
“I'd like to propose that we possibly move or consider moving our council meetings to 6PM rather than 7PM?” Kerrey said. Other councilors suggested 6:30 p.m. as a compromise that would be less disruptive for working families.
The mayor and staff said they would review council rules and the city charter to confirm any constraints and return a recommendation. Councilor Patty reported hearing the suggestion from the CEO of a major local employer and said an earlier time could allow business leaders to attend more easily.
No change was adopted; council asked staff to analyze the effects on work sessions, meeting length and council rules and to return with a recommendation.
