City staff presented a proposed council vision statement and values to the Stayton City Council on May 19 and asked councilors for feedback and time to refine the language.
“Just as a reminder, a vision statement is really a, who are we, where are we going…Values is what do we stand for?” said Julia (city staff), explaining the draft and the difference between vision, values and goals.
The draft vision read: “Stayton is a vibrant, connected community where people come first, growth is intentional, and every resident has the opportunity to thrive.” Proposed values included intentionality, collaboration, stewardship, engagement and innovation. Councilor Patty suggested adding the word “transparency” to the intentionality value. Several councilors said they wanted time to digest and wordsmith the draft; the council agreed to collect comments and revisit the item on June 15.
No formal action was taken; staff asked council members to submit suggested edits for discussion at a future meeting or a work session if needed.
