Details: The board approved an ordinance authorizing the mayor to attend the New York Conference of Mayors and Municipal Officers fall training school on Sept. 20, 2025. The board also approved an ordinance authorizing the mayor to attend the U.S. Conference of Mayors 2025 fall leadership meeting in Oklahoma City in September 2025. The city clerk and executive assistant were authorized to attend a training in Lake Placid under an amendment to a prior ordinance. The Department of Public Safety received permission for multiple staff to attend training sessions: three members to attend a Clark Farmer School course on Dec. 4, 2025; two members to attend a tactical narcotics briefing and training on Sept. 22–24, 2025; and four members to attend the 2025 Excelsior Challenge training at the New York State Preparedness Center Sept. 29–Oct. 3, 2025.
Board discussion: One board member framed the training approvals as an efficient use of resources, noting the department maintains a training staff so certified trainers can return to train larger groups rather than sending many officers to outside courses. "[T]here's always the question as to why more than 1 because we actually have, as we should have, a training staff," a board member said, and added that certified trainers allow the city to multiply training benefits back in-house.
Votes: Each travel and training ordinance was moved, seconded and approved on roll calls with Council President Brown and Mayor Patterson Howard recorded as voting aye.
